Life Update: Fall in the PNW

And all the lives we ever lived and all the lives to be are full of trees and changing leaves...
— Virgina Woolf

Hello, my lovely readers and happy first day of fall! I hope September has treated you well so far and that everything happening in the world hasn’t gotten you too down. To those who have found this month to bring more hardships than ease (as I have) know that I’m crossing my fingers for you as October comes racing around the corner. For me, the past few weeks have been filled with seemingly endless travel, hard decisions, and the beginning of my Senior year of college in Los Angeles. This post will be a quick update on what’s been going on in my life since my last post! I promise I’ll get back to posting regular, non-quarantine-related content to lift your spirits and usher us into spooky season. Until then, if you’d like to get your Autumn fix, check out this post from last year: My Favorite Fall Movies.

Alright, let’s get into it!

Senior Year Online

In mid-August (right before I was set to move back to Los Angeles) my university announced that most classes would be held online for the fall semester. My family and I decided to go forward with our plans for the road trip down to Los Angeles, knowing that the closure of my school would hugely change my plans for the rest of the school year. Two weeks into our stay, I realized things wouldn’t work out. If I stayed in Los Angeles, not only would I be braving a pandemic alone, but I would also be stuck in front of a computer for my classes for the foreseeable future. I also remember thinking that there was something wrong about my still being in that apartment; it didn’t feel like home anymore.

Everything in it, from the big green couch to the gorgeous paintings on the walls felt like the past. Maybe I changed too much for it to feel like home. So we ended up packing, putting my apartment up for rent again, saying goodbye to friends, and driving back up to Seattle while the entirety of the West Coast was on fire. The goodbye was the hardest part. My life in Los Angeles ended so quickly and with such little time to make peace with all the changes. I don’t know if Los Angeles will be in my future, but I’m thankful for all that the city of lights has given me (especially, my best friend). <3

Return to Seattle

I’m back in Seattle after 3 years of living in Los Angeles for college! I’ll be completely honest and say that I do have mixed feelings about it. I never planned to be living in the Seattle area again after graduating high school in 2016. I couldn’t see myself as an adult in the place I spent my childhood. Now, I’m having a pretty hard time deciding how I can bring the Maya that was having the time of her life in Los Angeles back to Seattle. I am, however, ridiculously excited about spending Fall and Winter in a place that has the weather to match! I’m a huge sucker for big chunky sweaters, Apple Cider, and weekends spent at the pumpkin patch. The next few months are sure to be full of cozy vibes and a lot of Hallmark movie nights. My best friend is also flying up from Los Angeles to spend a weekend with me in October. I’m really looking forward to it!

Refining My Closet

This past spring, I decided to begin preparing my wardrobe for post-college life! I’ve done my best to work on putting together a wardrobe that reflects my personality, interests, and inspirations. Most recently, I’ve found myself completely enamored by the French girl: carefree (and somehow still put together) with the incorporation of timeless and feminine pieces. Think Brigitte Bardot meets Françoise Hardy! I’ve also been hugely influenced by women’s fashion of the mid-late 1940s and early 50s. I love their jewel-toned colors, hemlines, and little romantic details. Here’s to hoping I’ll be able to show off my new French-inspired and vintage finds before the year is out! You can expect to see a few fall and movie/TV show inspired lookbooks up by the end of this week!

Her Campus at LMU

I saved the best news for last! I’ve just been accepted as a contributing writer for the Her Campus chapter at Loyola Marymount University. If you’ve never heard of Her Campus, it’s an international online magazine database by female college students for female college students. I’m looking forward to working with so many amazing women and create some great content! I’m hoping to pursue a career in fashion journalism or publishing, so I’m excited to gain some experience with online blogging! I will continue to post on this blog regularly, but be sure to check out my school’s Her Campus website for more lifestyle and fashion posts from me! My first post will be up by next week. To those who knew about my new position, thank you for your well-wishes and support. :)

Thank you for catching up with me! I hope you enjoyed this post and that you got to know me a little better. With this new semester in full swing, I’m planning on getting a new post up every Friday afternoon! Be sure to follow me on my social media accounts for life and blog updates. I’d love to get to know and interact more with my followers! Know that your love and support mean the world to me. That’s it for this post, I hope you enjoy your weekend and the changing of the seasons! Up next: a lookbook inspired by my favorite literary character, Anne Shirley-Cuthbert.

With love,

Maya.
